How To Avoid Morning Sickness During Pregnancy?
Morning sickness with occasional vomiting, is often seen in early pregnancy, and is considered one of the uncertain signs of pregnancy.
For many pregnant women, sickness occurs at morning and as the day goes by they reduce intensity. However, morning sickness can actually occur at any time of day or night, and can sometimes be present throughout the day. About three quarters of pregnant women face this problem. Morning sickness usually begins in the sixth week of pregnancy, but may also start earlier, usually subside around the beginning of the second quarter. However in some pregnant women, morning sickness can continue throughout pregnancy, with possible periods of pause.
Pregnant women, other than subjective discomfort, have no special inconveniences. Their normal life, general health or proper development of the pregnancy is not influenced. After a shorter or longer duration, usually by the end of the third month, the subjective complaints of pregnant women disappear and normal pregnancy progresses.
To facilitate this situation, it is recommended in the morning to eat breakfast while still in bed and during the day to take small frequent meals, cold and solid food. Liquids should be taken between the meals. Usually it is enough for symptoms to disappear and other treatment is not needed.
However, if vomiting becomes frequent and begins to upset the general condition of the woman, then the issue is not the pregnancy, but it is disease of the pregnant woman. Such pregnant woman vomits several times a day, but she can still take and keep the eaten food and liquid and her general condition is not very disordered.
This stage of the disease is called vomiting in pregnancy (emesis gravidarum) and in many cases the disorder does not develop further, but gradually, usually after the third month of pregnancy, regardless of treatment it subsides and spontaneous regression (withdrawal) of the disease occurs.
However, these pregnant women should not wait to remedy the situation spontaneously, because in some percentage, instead of improvement, dangerous deterioration may occur and treatment becomes difficult and complicated. Because of that, pregnant women with emesis gravidarum require treatment.
If you have mild morning sickness there is a wide variety of remedies that can help. Every pregnant woman is different, so you need to find what suits you. Here are some tips:
- Try to avoid food that encourages sickness. If you feel that almost all food products cause that, eat those few that do not interfere.
- Hot food has more odors, so you can try to eat cold food or food at room temperature.
- In the morning before getting up, eat some crackers and lay about half an hour. Keep crackers near the bed. Crackers can help if you wake up with pains during the night.
- Eat smaller meals and more snacks during the day so that your stomach is never empty.
The therapy consists of giving medications that reduce the sensitivity of the vomiting center, and it removes the feeling of urge to vomit. This treatment is usually implemented in ambulances by giving antiemetics, Stemetil or rarely Largactil. If the pregnant woman vomits the taken drugs, it is better to administer Stemetil in the form of rectal suppositories, rather than orally.
